ABOUT US

Catastro Nacional holds Chile’s most complete record of in-process and in-place mining claims with records dating back to 1891.

We serve as consultants and advisors on projects in a number of fields, including: mining, infrastructure, high voltage transmission lines, ports, highways, solar energy, wind and hydroelectric energy, among others.

Our database contains the most complete legal and technical listings  of mining concessions and properties, both in-process and in-place. Updated weekly, our records date back to 1891 and stand as not only the country’s largest collection of information on mining claims, but also the broadest set of fields associated with each property.

This exclusive database, and the software behind it, was created specifically for Catastro Nacional. As a result, we are uniquely poised to manage salient information, cross-check and chart data. Our team of engineers works closely with our legal experts to mine the database with a view toward creating sound investment strategies for our clients, performing due diligence searches and audits of mining property in any area of the country.

These services enjoy the protection and confidentiality that only a proprietary system can afford, as no third parties are involved or are privy to the searches effected.

Thanks to our in-house database, Catastro Nacional is uniquely positioned to create and chart mining records, perform due diligence and audits of mining property in any area of the country, with the protection and confidentiality afforded by a propriety system

Our Services

Establishment and Monitoring of Mining Concessions

Catastro Nacional formulates strategies and manages all legal proceedings needed to secure mining concessions across Chile.
Once the concession is granted, we use our propriety database and other tools to monitor the property for the life of the project to protect it from third party encroachments and other potential threats.

Land Registry and Mining Claim Audits

Using our database containing records dating back to 1891 and updated weekly,  Catastro Nacional identifies and locates existing and in-process mining claims in a given area.
The land registry search of our database produces a graphics file that can be viewed in Google Earth.
Our mining claim audit service identifies currently valid concessions and allows us to alert clients to claims subject to revocation or annulment.
Both services also identify overlapping claims as well as efforts by third parties to encroach on existing concessions.

Mining Measurements

Catastro Nacional has expert engineers on staff, duly authorized by the National Geology and Mining Service,  as well as specialized master builders known as “alarifes” equipped with state-of-the-art GPS equipment to carry out measurement operations.

Bid Rounds, Easements and Support in Mining Lawsuits

Catastro Nacional keeps close track of upcoming new releases and bid rounds, and monitors the emergence of third parties interested on our client’s claims, providing timely legal assistance as needed.

CONFIDENTIALITY

1. No outsourcing

We have an in-house team of engineers, lawyers and mining experts which means that we do not outsource work and strategies, execution or project review, thus helping to protect the integrity of our clients’ confidential information.
Moreover, since we own our proprietary database of mining properties, we run all land records searches and perform all due diligence monitoring in-house, again helping to keep sensitive information confidential.

2. Confidentiality Agreements

Each and every member of our staff has signed a strict confidentiality agreement addressing the handling of both the company’s propriety information and that of our clients.

3. Strict Access to Information Controls

We have not suffered the loss or leakage of sensitive information since we were founded over 30 years ago. Our security systems provide for differentiated, compartmentalized, layers of IT and human-team access to information.

4. Computer Security Measures

Our proprietary mining claims database and software are housed on stand-alone, Internet-barred systems. This “off the grid” approach, combined with other security measures and access restrictions, helps keep hackers out and our data intact.
In addition, our data is regularly and systematically updated, encrypted and backed up.

Our people

Our team is composed of experts, both engineers and lawyers, whose experience in the mining industry ranges between 7 and 42 years.

We are proud to have members of the Drafting Committee of the current Mining Code on our team.

In fact, in 1990, just seven years after the 1983 Mining Code came into effect, the Catastro Nacional team had already participated in the establishment of more than 2.8 million hectares of exploration and exploitation mining concessions in Chile.

Two decades later, the number of projects and surface area involved, as well as their complexity, have increased exponentially. Catastro Nacional remains at the forefront of project implementation across Chile, facilitating mining property exploration and exploitation and safeguarding and protecting rights to land for infrastructure and energy projects.

Since 1990, we have also been involved in the incorporation and control of mining properties in Brazil, Argentina, and Peru.

“I worked with Catastro Nacional when I was Commercial Attaché at the British Embassy in Chile. They are very professional and are experts in the constitution, control, monitoring, audit and due diligence of mining properties and water rights law.”

Trevor J. Hines

Former British Diplomat, previously responsible for business for Chile and Mining in Latin America

“In my experience, Catastro Nacional has an extraordinarily comprehensive database of mining property records in Chile. The experience, professionalism and dedication of its human team in setting up and auditing mining properties has an excellent reputation.
I highly recommend this law office for Chilean mining properties.”
